La contienda es tan mala que le abre la puerta de nuestra vida a la perturbación y a toda obra perversa (Santiago 3:14-16); por tanto, deberíamos rechazarla con toda nuestra fuerza. Sin embargo, eso no es todo lo que en la Biblia se explica acerca de ésta. En su carta a los corintios, el apóstol Pablo nos dio más información con respecto a los efectos dañinos que ésta causa: «De manera que yo, hermanos, no pude hablaros como a espirituales, sino como a carnales, como a niños en Cristo. Os di a beber leche, y no vianda; porque aún no erais capaces, ni sois capaces todavía, porque aún sois carnales; pues habiendo entre vosotros celos, contiendas y disensiones, ¿no sois carnales, y andáis como hombres?» (1 Corintios 3:1-3). Los cristianos que viven en la carne son personas desdichadas. Son nuevas criaturas y conocen bastante de Dios como para no disfrutar del pecado; sin embargo, no están los suficientemente comprometidos como para permanecer lejos de éste. Si no desea estar atrapado en esa condición (y sé que no lo quiere), entonces no se involucre en la contienda ¡porque ésta lo mantendrá en una condición carnal! Le será difícil digerir la carne de la Palabra; y sin esa carne, usted no podrá crecer y convertirse en un creyente fuerte y victorioso. Si usted se molesta y discute con otros, no se desarrollará en su crecimiento espiritual. Permanecerá para siempre en un estado de infancia espiritual, y el diablo lo derribará con frecuencia. Entonces madure. No se quede como un bebé espiritual. Quite la contienda de su vida y sumérjase en la Palabra. ¡Pronto se convertirá en el vencedor que la Palabra declara que usted es! Rut 1-3; Romanos 12-13 Vivo en amor y crezco en todas las áreas de mi vida (Efesios 4:15).

It’s bad enough that strife opens the door of our lives to confusion and every evil work (James 3:14-16). That alone should make us resist it with all our might. But that’s not all the Bible has to say about it.

In his letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul gave us even more information about the damaging effects of strife. He wrote:

“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” (1 Corinthians 3:1-3).

Carnal Christians are miserable people. They’re born again and they know enough about God not to enjoy sin, but they aren’t committed enough to stay out of sin.

If you don’t want to find yourself trapped in that condition (and I know you don’t) then stay out of strife, because strife will keep you carnal! It will inhibit your ability to digest the meat of the Word, and without that meat you won’t be able to grow into a strong, victorious Christian. If you fuss and bicker with others, your spiritual growth will be stunted. You’ll remain in a perpetual state of spiritual infancy and the devil will run over you regularly!

So grow up. Don’t stay a baby. Get out of strife and into the Word. Soon you’ll be the overcomer the Word says you are!
