Dios nos creó a Su imagen; por tanto, poseemos Su misma semejanza plasmada en nuestro interior. Su imagen de dar se encuentra profundamente arraigada en nuestro ser. Por eso, dar es una de las necesidades básicas espirituales que tenemos. Debemos dar -y la necesidad de dar que se encuentra en nuestro interior es más grande que la de guardar-. Observe que la clave para disfrutar de todas las cosas que Dios nos ha otorgado, se mencionan en 1 Timoteo: «…Ser ricos en buenas obras, y generosos, y dispuestos a compartir lo que tienen…». Actuar como las personas que se aferran a lo que han acumulado en esta Tierra, a fin de guardarlo para su propia seguridad, su jubilación o « bajo su almohada », etc.; es atarse a una mentalidad terrenal. En la Biblia se le denomina a esa clase de gente: los ricos de este mundo. Jesús manifiesta que esa clase de riquezas son inciertas y corruptibles. Es obvio que Jesús no condena que se tengan cuentas de ahorro, o algo parecido, sino la mentalidad de aferrarse a todo lo que se posee, lo cual no muestra fe alguna. Esa creencia no es el elemento principal en Filipenses 4:19: «Mi Dios, pues, suplirá todo lo que os falta conforme a sus riquezas en gloria en Cristo Jesús». En la forma de pensar del mundo el dinero no vale, a menos que haya temor. Por ejemplo, el temor afirma: « He trabajado duro para esto. No tendré otra oportunidad para adquirir todo esto otra vez, así que mejor lo retendré tanto como me sea posible… porque uno nunca sabe… ». Entonces el temor no da porque el deseo de guardar predomina sobre la necesidad de dar; y esto es a causa de que la fe se establece sobre riquezas inciertas. En toda su vida, jamás ha tenido tan poco, como el hecho de tener tanto dinero y temer gastarlo. La fe, por otro lado, declara: « Recibí todas estas riquezas al creerle a Dios; y mientras Él se encuentre cerca, siempre obtendré más ». La fe no debe aferrarse a todo lo que ya adquirió. La fe da con generosidad… pues ésta no depende de lo que ya tiene. Entonces ¿cómo maneja su dinero? ¿En fe o en temor? Dé en fe, con generosidad. Ofrende de usted mismo, de su tiempo, de sus talentos y de su dinero. Dé cómo una expresión de lo que usted en realidad es… alguien creado a la misma imagen de Dios… ¡Él más grande dador de todos! 1 Samuel 8-9; 1 Corintios 2 Confío en el Dios viviente que me da todas las cosas en abundancia para que las disfrute (1 Timoteo 6:17).

God created us in His image. We have His very likeness branded inside of us. We have His giving image planted deep within us, and because of that, giving is one of the most basic spiritual needs we have. We need to give—and this need to give that’s inside us is far greater than the need to keep.

You see, the key to enjoying all things God has given us as mentioned in 1 Timothy is being “ready to distribute” at all times, and “willing to communicate.”

To be like those people who hold on to what they accumulate on this earth in order to provide for their own security, their own retirement, their own “cushion” or whatever you want to call it, is to be earthly minded. While people like this have put themselves in a position of being what the Bible calls earthly rich, Jesus says that those riches are uncertain. They are corruptible.

Obviously, Jesus is not condemning savings accounts, or the like. The point is, the “holding-on-to-everything-I’ve-got” mentality does not factor in faith. It does not factor in Philippians 4:19 that says “my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

In the world’s way of thinking, money has no value unless fear is applied to it. Think about this…

Fear says, “I’ve worked hard for this. I may not have another opportunity to have this much again, so I’d better hold on to it as long as I can…’cause you never know.”

So fear does not give because the need to give is overridden by the need to keep, and this is because faith was placed in uncertain riches. You have never had so little in all your life as to have a lot of money that you are afraid to spend.

Faith, on the other hand, says, “I received all these riches by believing God, and as long as God is around, there is always more where this came from.”

Faith doesn’t have to hold on to everything it gets. Faith freely gives… because faith is not in a mind-set of expecting to do without.

So how are you handling your money? In faith, or fear? Give in faith. Give freely. Give of yourself, your time, your talent and your money. Give as an expression of who you really are…someone created in the very image of God…the greatest giver of all!
